Top toys for the 2010 holidays

Major toy retailers to release new hot toy lists

Each year in the fall, major toy retailers like Toys R Us, Target and Walmart provide their list of the most anticipated new toys for the upcoming holiday season.

The new, hot toy lists for the 2010 Christmas holiday season serves as a starting point to help parents, friends and family find the perfect gift for any child.

Predicting the best, hot new toys for 2010

The upcoming new Christmas toys will be appearing in store shelves and online catalogs late this summer.

One highly expected hit for the holiday will be 3D home entertainment. New 3D capable TVs, Blu-ray players, DVDs and video games are just starting to reach the market. These 3D sources will help revive the slumping electronics industry.

While consumers have reduced spending through most of 2009, toy makers have been keeping costs in mind.

Discount promo coupons and free shipping are the key words for this spending season. newspublish

According to CBS News, classic toys will make a comeback. Remote control cars and frozen snack machines are back as freeze pop machines.

Some possible brand new, hot toys this year may include electronics such as mini digital cameras like the Jonas Brothers Pix Micro Digital Camera or the Disney Princess Pix Micro Digital Camera from Toys"R"Us, or the Hello Kitty and Friends Plush Doll.

The poll, conducted by KRC Research, also found that 52 percent of respondents believe that with the current economy, video games are a good option for family entertainment this holiday season. NEW WORLD VISION STUDY SAYS WE PLAN TO GIVE MORE TO CHARITY WHEN THE ECONOMY IMPROVES

AMERICANS SAY IT'S ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO ADDRESS THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN DURING THE HOLIDAYS

The faltering U.S. economy will again force many U.S. adults to cut back on holiday gift spending this year but according to a new study, three out of four Americans (76%) would prefer to receive a meaningful gift that would help someone else instead of a traditional holiday gift like clothing or electronics. And according to the new study commissioned by World Vision, an international relief and development organization, an overwhelming majority (95%), say the nation's focus over the holidays ought to be on helping children. Most Americans also say once the economy improves, they'll increase their donations to charities. According to the poll, conducted by Harris Interactive, almost three out of four (74%) say they'll increase their charitable giving once the economy improves. • Movie Reviews 2010 by Miv Evans
    09/02/2010 - 10:24
    12/31/2010 - 10:24
    Etc/GMT-7
Miv Evans is a British businesswoman who relocated to Los Angeles in 2005. She previously had a comedy drama commissioned by BBC TV and sold her first film to REN Media International in 2008 which she wrote, directed and produced. She is also the Director of The Trailer Film Festival which she founded in 2009. Now available on Cable and DVD: Johnny Mad Dog is a militia commander and orders his soldiers to murder, torture and rape in the name of a vague ideology that condemns everyone who is not a member of their rebel faction. But there is one thing that separates Johnny from most other terrorists.  He?s only 15 years old, his band of killers are younger still, and they were all stolen from their parents when they were too tiny to fight back.  These are the child soldiers of the world.

Opening international through November: Eat, Pray, Love. Julia Roberts gorge herself in Italy (lots of exciting close ups of spaghetti), hang out with Richard Jenkins in Indian (they’re in an Ashram but spiritual experiences are limited to stern lectures from Jenkins, who thinks he’s in rehab) and then she flies off to Bali to have her fortune told by someone who forgot he’d told her to come back the year before. Watch movie trailer and read movie reviews.

September 3 (US): "Going the Distance." Going the Distance is a romantic comedy, and the experience of watching it could be likened to one of the most boring conversations you?ve ever had in your life.   Your eyes are glazing over but the person talking to you insists on droning on for another ninety minutes, which guarantees the next time you see them you?ll be long gone and perhaps this is something Miss Barrymore should think about the next time she gets offered a sub-standard script.

August 20: Pirahna 3d If an amateur writer was going to write a script about a killer fish, these are the things he would not do- Set the story in high season in a sleepy town resort; have an opening shot of a lone person in water being attacked from below; make the Chief of Police one of the main characters;  include  the Chief of Police?s children; let the Chief of Police anywhere near a boat; have the Chief of Police threaten to close the waters; let Richard Dreyfuss do a cameo.

Opening in August and September: The Sicilian Girl. Is it possible that filmmakers may have finally tired of romanticizing the Mafia? Have the Godfathers become the Goldman Sachs of the underworld, no longer respected by their global audience and recognized simply as the gangsters that they really are? Rita Atria is the daughter of a Mafia don.  At the age of eleven she witnesses him being gunned down and throws herself across his blood-stained body in the village square, screaming for help, but no one comes.

August 31 DVD Release in the US: City Island. The concept behind City Island is that everyone has a secret but, unfortunately, when these secrets are revealed, they?re something we?ve seen a million times before. And as if this isn?t banal enough, a very silly sub-plot is introduced that is clearly there just to make sure us idiots get it.  Insulting your audience?s intelligence is never a good idea and, as the producers now know, not the route to Box Office glory.             Vince Rizzo (Andy Garcia) is married with two teenage children.  His wife works in a Call Center, his son watches porn online and bunks off school and his daughter is, to all intents and purposes, in college.

DVD in August: The Ghost Writer This is a potentially explosive film which should have attracted global interest but theatrically it hardly made a splash and the DVD release will undoubtedly fare no better.  The eyes of the world press were on Polanski as he completed the final editing for Ghost Writer in a Swiss jail, which sounds like a PR machine at work and should have sent this film into the Box Office stratosphere. But, in the event, it turned out to be a pretty insubstantial effort and was soon recognized as such, so all those millions of dollars of free publicity were wasted which must have sent a few PR stalwarts into cardiac arrest.

August 25: Louis This film is about Louis Armstrong, the first jazz soloist to garner international acclaim and one of the greatest musical influences of the 20th Century. His road to stardom is a classic underdog story and, of course, fodder for a fascinating biopic. But, in the event, the filmmaker dismisses Armstrong?s spectacular rise, plays out a few months of his childhood, screens it in black and white and makes it into a silent film.

August 20: The Tillman Story. Whenever there’s a public inquiry or hearing, it seems governments and corporations always come out looking even worse than we already thought they were. In The Tillman Story the military are included in the line-up and, by the end of this sorry tale, it becomes clear that the martial moral compass has become decidedly out of synch.

August 20: Lottery Ticket This film is described as a comedy drama and, as the person sitting next to me laughed once, I?ll go along with the comedy but, as regards the latter, I?ve seen more drama in the late afternoon line at the local post office when a customer has given the only clerk on duty the paperwork for a passport.  Now that is drama.  (Note: although I didn?t join in the exchange I do agree that a specific officer should be responsible for passports but I don?t agree that just because a female clerk sticks up for herself and wears a shirt that she?s a lesbian).

August 6, 2010: Enemies of the People - the Cambodian Holocaust. The Enemies of the People are the words the Khmer Rouge used to describe the two million Cambodians who they butchered in the name of patriotism. This film searches for an explanation for this genocide and in its quest some things are skimmed over, but if it sends you scuttling to the internet to discover more, as it did me, then the filmmakers’ job is done.   It’s a remarkable piece of work.

August 13: The Expendables When Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis and Rourke are on screen they are clearly having a blast. The trademark Stallone dialogue rolls off their tongues as they tower over their roles with a can-do air that makes it very tongue-in-cheek and it?s hugely entertaining. But, unfortunately, there?s nowhere near enough of it and it?s unsettling to flit from satire to deadly action; we can only go one way and the former makes it hard to take the latter seriously.  Sly hints that this could be his action finale and, although it isn?t a worthy goodbye, it?s an entertaining romp and it would be a shame not to catch those biceps just one last time.

August 20: Mesrine. Jacques Mesrine was a French international gangster who was gunned down in 1979 by a police unit set-up solely to eliminate him, thus guaranteeing he would become one of history’s criminal icons and ensuring his robberies, murders and prison breaks would one day become legendary. And as French exports go, this renegade is definitely up there with the Camembert, Pinot Noir and fries.

August 13: Animal Kingdom. The Kingdom is the Melbourne underworld and the Animals are the armed robbers who inhabit the terrain.  It’s set at a time when Melbourne criminals are becoming TV Reality stars and the Armed Robbery Police Force are shooting suspects on sight.  It’s down and dirty and we only hear it from the bad guys’ side which is the right place to be because when the hunter becomes the hunted we want to get as close as we can.

July 30, 2010: Charlie St Cloud is a character driven drama, featuring characters who have very little character and who  spend a lot of time on their boats.  So if you like boats and you?re absolutely crazy about Zac Efron, you might find this movie bearable.  Just.    Charlie lives with his divorced mother and younger brother, Sam.  One night, Charlie gives Sam a ride, they get hit by a drunk driver, Sam is killed, Charlie survives.  Cut to five years later, Sam tends graves for a living and lives in a wooden hut in a cemetery.

July 30, 2010: Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel - Forever. This documentary show the impact that both Hefner and his revolutionary magazine had on America in the 50s. There are interviews with legendary musicians, actors, filmmakers and religious leaders as well as unknown employees and enemies.

July 30, 2010: Cats and Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore ? Spies with long tales In 2D and 3D film. This children?s film has been created in live action, puppetry and computer animation and is set in two worlds ? one has talking cats and dogs, the other has regular humans. Creating two planets in a film can work magnificently if that?s what the story is about, but if it?s only the backdrop of a story, it gets a little tricky.  Probably a little like trying to mix oil and water, or deciding to buy magnetic catches; you know, deep down, it?s just not going to work.

July 23, 2010 release: Salt is Sony?s summer release action thriller, starring Janene Carleto and Nicole Callender, featuring Angelna Jolie.  The reason AJ doesn?t get star billing here is because the film is 99 minutes, 70 of which are action sequences that no A list actor could ever get insurance for.  It?s what happens when you start collecting $17M a movie; you put a price on your head that no one can afford. July 16, 2010 release: Inception Inception is a two and a half hour lecture on metaphysics, with some Groundhog Day and James Bond moments thrown in. It?s a futuristic story but no new sci-fi world has been created and the story is simply dropped into the present day, without a ray gun or lightsaber in sight. And instead of using a tardis to get around, our hero uses a white van - how passé is that?

July 9, 2010 release date: Despicable Me is a Sci-fi is the genre where special effects come into their own and 3D animation can turn the watchable into the spectacular.  So with Despicable Me having both these components, plus a great concept, Universal must have decided they didn?t need to try too hard with the script and in the event turned out something rather mediocre.  Expensive, but very, very mediocre.

July 2 release date: RestrepoTwo intrepid journalists spent over a year with the Battle Company of 173rd Airborne Brigade in a remote Afghani valley, considered to be one of the most dangerous postings of the war.  This documentary gives us combat, bullet by bullet, soldiers, strike by strike, Afghanis, elder by elder, all set against the harsh terrain of a valley that has claimed fifty US lives.  It?s Afghanistan at its ugliest and documentary filmmaker at its most exciting and it?s a compelling combination.

June 4 : Get Him to The Greek The Greek is a famous L.A. night spot, Aldous is a fallen rock star, Aaron is a desperate intern, Sergio is his psychotic boss and Get Him to the Greek is LOL after LOL and assures us that growing old might be mandatory but growing up is most definitely not.

May 27: Sex and the City 2. Every TV episode of Sex and the City was character driven and strictly about relationships, as was Sex and the City, the film.  So with this winning formula why would the sequel minimize emotional interaction, go heavy on plot, crazy on set design and, while wardrobe always played big in the background, have so many outfit changes that the characters become mannequins?  It?s a fairly enjoyable watch, but this film has got way, way too much sizzle and definitely not enough sausage.

May 23: John Rabe - the gentle German who saved 200,000 Chinese lives. Rab kept diaries during the 27 years he spent in China as an employee of Siemens.   His scribblings detail the minutiae of his life and relationships with the city and the people with whom he became deeply entrenched.

May 14: Robin Hood robbed the rich to give to the poor, but tales of how he started on his altruistic path differ. Some claim he was a Yeoman, driven to crime by the rule of the rich (the UK was obviously right wing in the 12th century), others say he was a deer poacher and became an outlaw because the deer were the property of the King. But now Ridley Scott has come up with a politically charged version that not only romanticizes our hero?s story, but also mocks the British monarchy and bashes the French at the same time. How smart is that?

April 30 release date: A Nightmare on Elm Street Prior to 2010, there have been seven films in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise and that?s excluding the Freddy vs Jason spin-off.  There have also been countless books, comics and a TV series. If Warner Bros had been as numeric as Rocky this latest release would have been called Nightmare on Elm Street 8, which sounds like overkill even by Freddy?s standards and, as it also sounds like a spoof, I can see why they didn?t go for it.

April 30: Casino Jack and the United States of Money spot your politician here! Review and interview with Alex Gibney, the writer & director. Casino Jack is one Jack Abramoff, a man from a privileged background who achieved very little in life until he set his sights on the casinos run by Native Americans.

April 30 release date: "Harry Brown" is a 76 year old man who loses his wife through illness and his only friend through tragedy.  His daughter died when she was 13, his health is ailing and he lives in a crime-infested neighborhood with absolutely no one by his side.  Simply put, Harry is bereft of anything he values and as brave is just another word for ‘nothing to lose’, he decides to pin that particular badge on his chest and get to work.  He’s commanding and convincing and watching him in Dirty Harry mode when wheezing from emphysema is quite an experience.

April 30 release date: "The Good Heart" This story is about the bonding of a cynical, mean-spirited old man and a sweet, generous youth who impact so much on each others? emotions that they both finally become whole. At least, that?s the story the filmmakers wanted to tell and I know this because the actors recite sign-posted dialogue at every turn. Worse still, the characters lurch so erratically from one behavior to another I got a little travel sick about half-way through. If there had been any kind of conflict I?d have had to run to the bathroom but, as the director/writer thinks drama needs only the token odd flare up, I managed to stay steady.

April 23 opening date: "Paper Man" This film is billed as a comedy drama about a failed novelist (Richard), his successful wife (Claire), and a troubled 17 year old girl (Amy). Both the middle-aged novelist and the young girl are in possession of an imaginary friend and it is ostensibly this commonality that brings the two odd balls together, which is where Paper Man takes its fatal dive. Of the three main characters, the only one powerful enough to keep this humdrum story alive is Lisa Kudrow, but she has comparatively little screen time and, without her, scenes just trundle by on their inevitable journey to DVD Land. The story is based around Richard?s writers? block, which has been done so many times it?s a worry before the curtain even goes up. Why does anyone think we want to watch an actor procrastinating in front of a blank screen?

April 23: "The Losers" A comic book set in World War 11, five tough guys, a circa 2010 Catwoman, a Bolivian jungle, child drug mules, a CIA betrayal, a snuke (yes, that?s now a word) and a villain who wears one glove, are the elements that make up The Losers.

April 9: "The Good, The Bad, The Weird" The Good is Do-Won (Bounty Hunter, a Korean Dirty Harry), The Bad is Chang-yi (Head Honcho, raving psycho) and The Weird is Tae-Goo (petty thief, murders if necessary).  These three Korean exiles duke it out in a Chinese desert and if this all sounds a little bizarre that?s because it is but as everything roller coasts out of control, curiosity overwhelms, and you just have to sit out the ride. There is a map of some buried treasure so fabled it is coveted by the highest (the Japanese army) to the lowest (the Asian desert bandits), with our three heroes sandwiched between.  Rumors of the mystery cache spread like Chinese whispers and as dreams of opulence grow so the urge to find the missing map overwhelm and a frantic blood lust fills the air.  The final battle scenes stretch across the vast desert and the dust settles over our three heroes as they find themselves face to face, with the buried treasure beneath their very feet.

April 10: "The Square" In THE SQUARE ? a chilling tale about sex and silver This film follows the descent of a man who longed for that little bit more, and got it.  It?s a tale of desire, deceit, betrayal, violence and revenge.  It shows how people can carry out dark deeds and let their judgment slip away as they stumble blindly from fatal error, to fatal error, to fatal error.  In other words, it?s a story about what happens after you have sex with someone else?s wife. It?s claimed to be the best film noir since Body Heat and while I wouldn?t elevate it to so lofty a status, it?s dramatic and it?s thrilling and serves as a chilling reminder that when you?re in a hole, you really should stop digging.

April 2: "Clash of the Titans" is described as an action, adventure, drama, fantasy, and is set at the time when gods ruled from Mount Olympus and myths and legends were created. Warner Bros portray this celestial world perfectly and, like our hero, never waiver from their quest. After a brief intro, the film follows Perseus as he fights his way through unholy demons, outwits crowing witches, wards off fearsome beasts, overcomes the kracken, triumphs over the god of the underworld, beheads the dreaded gorgon and, in his final battle, saves Princess Andromeda from sacrifice. The action never stops, with clash after tumultuous clash erupting by the minute, all of which will make this most dazzling extravaganza into one of the most brilliant video games ever. But unfortunately, as a film, it sucks April 2 opening date: "Don MaKay" Don McKay is billed as Jake Goldberger?s debut mystery thriller and is described by the filmmaker himself as a ?film noir?, inspired by the Coen Brothers? intricate yarn, Blood Simple. These are tempting appetizers so disappointment is heightened when this film fails to deliver one single moment of true tension and although the mysteries of plot and character are finally revealed with the high drama of a game of Cluedo, it?s a matter of far too much, much too late, and the audience is left feeling cheated that the filmmaker let the characters take their journey alone.

March 28: "How to Train Your Dragon 3D" This animated fantasy is set on the island of Berk, the residents are Scottish Vikings and our hero is one Hiccup Horrendous Haddocks III, the weakling teenage son of the strapping tribal chief. The village is under constant siege by dragons so this is a place where warriors are revered and the meek are ridiculed, which leaves Hiccup in a bit of a pickle. But true heroes will always out and this tale shows how Hiccup kicks ass but still manages to stay true to Hiccup. How to Train Your Dragon is nowhere near a classic but it?s really very cute.

    • Decorating Do's and Don'ts for Home Sellers
      08/24/2010 - 10:29
      09/16/2023 - 10:29
      Etc/GMT-7

Real estate author and expert Mark Nash defines what home sellers should do decorating-wise in 2006 to prepare their home for sale. Commitment colors are out and forget trendy "visual veneers".

Nash serves his advice straight up to those looking to position their home in the post real estate bubble housing market. Nash's fourth book "1001 Tips for Buying and Selling a Home" was published in early 2005.

Today's savvy post-real estate bubble (it's only a correction) homebuyers require quality finishes and neutral color palettes in homes they ultimately purchase.

If you are contemplating selling your home in 2006 and need to decorate before placing your home on market remember that cutting-edge interior design and commitment colors ( strong, bold, trendy) are usually a red flag to home buyers. Buyers consider "visual veneer" a mask for defects in a home.

After a year of property showings in 2005 and eight previous years on property searches with homebuyers as well as requests from consumers after the review of "1001 Tips for Buying and Selling a Home" in The New York Times I've complied a list of home runs and strike-outs for those looking to sell to home in 2006.

      Do's

      • Purchase the best quality carpet pad which can make any new carpeting "cushy", and home buyers love cushy. Stay away from shag styles, buyers know it won't be around long in style cycles.
      • Install bamboo floors in contempory settings, bamboo is out-pacing maple as the "new" light colored wood floor.
      • Forget parquet and veneered wood flooring. Parquet is still out-of-favor and buyers are aware that thin wood veneer over wood products can't handle many sanding's to change stain colors.
      • Take the time to paint walls, trim and ceilings. Keep adjoining rooms in the same color palette which will make your home appear larger and flow better. Clean up spills from messy painters. Hire professionals to paint mullions on windows and staircase spindles.
      • Slipcover mismatched furniture in a room that requires visual unification.
      • Streamline window fashions. Heavy drapes are in the minority. Think "let the light shine in" when placing placing blinds and shades. Light and bright can overcome other issues with home.
      • Test all door and cabinet knobs. Replace mis-matched or inexpensive hardware for a quick update. Buyers rarely can get beyond a knob that comes off in their hand as they attempt to use a door.
      • Freshen-up closets with closet organizers to maximize storage space and paint a neutral washable color. Make sure buyers can see the back of all closets and cupboards. Lighting is often overlooked feature in closets, but buyers will always turn on lights when viewing a closet, big or small.
      • Locate wall spaces for large and flat screen tv's. They are a "must-have" for the majority of homebuyers. Plasma tv's are quickly becommming the "Monet" over the fireplace.
      • Install technology wiring for high-speed Internet, cable, and wi-fi, if you have walls opened up. "Wired homes" are becoming one of the top whistle and bells buyers demand. Don't overlook the bathrooms!
      • Consider the appropriate level for finishes in kitchens and bathrooms. Buyers in a mid-priced neighborhood aren't looking for high-end finishes.
      • Clean every surface until it shimmers and shines. Clean can seal a deal. Don't forget the windows.
      • Polish and wax hardwood floors to brighten and blend an old finish.
      • Get rid of family and highly personal photos. Buyers can't visualize themselves in a home that's still territorially yours.
      • Edit your furniture and accessories in every room. Less is more, buyers are looking to purchase your real estate not your personal property.
      • Make sure there is balanced lighting in every room for dusk and evening showings. Dimmers help set the right tone.
      • Take the time to clean, organize and paint basements, attics and garages. Many a home buyer has passed on a home they otherwise liked because it had a "creepy" attic or basement.
      • Invite three full-time real estate agents to view your home before and after your interior design pre-market update.
      • Install new light switch covers. Most buyers interact with these on home showings. Worn or out-of-date covers lack attention to detail.

      Don'ts

      • Don't install kitchen cabinets with the drawer fronts stapled on, buyers look for quality dove-tailed construction.
      • Don't assume everyone loves stainless steel appliances. Word-of-mouth says the cleaning requirements aren't for everyone.
      • Wallpaper. Buyers never have the same taste as decorators. Take it down (carefully) and paint.
      • Don't install inexpensive home-center light fixtures and use interior fixtures outside. The right fixtures say quality to buyers.
      • Don't use and do remove all mirror's placed as backsplash's in kitchens, dining room accent walls, bedroom ceilings (I see them way to much) and long hallways. Mirrored walls and ceilings say more about the homeowner than buyers want to know.
      • Don't block good room and house flow. Awkward furniture placement can make a room feel smaller than it is. Keep in mind that groups of people will be walking through your home together.
      • Don't overlook the front door. First impressions count. Paint the door, polish the hardware and illuminate the entry area and house numbers.
      • Don't stain newly refinished floors dark colors. Buyers if they want lighter floors will factor in refinishing costs when presenting an offer.
      • Don't forget to remove all dated and dusty sill flowers and plants. Budget for weekly fresh flowers and potted plants while your home is being toured.
      • Don't dismiss your location, southwestern looks out-of-place in most northern climates and contemporary is hard to pull off in a vintage saltbox colonial.
      • Don't install inexpensive laminate flooring instead of hardwood in living and family rooms. Buyers walking across it, hate the hollow noise that echoes up from it.

Mark Nash's fourth real estate book, "1001 Tips for Buying and Selling a Home" (2005), and working as a real estate broker in Chicago are the foundation for his consumer-centric real estate perspective which has been featured on CBS The Early Show, Bloomberg TV, Fidelity Investor’s Weekly, Dow Jones Market Watch, MSNBC.com, The New York Times, Universal Press Syndicate and USA Today.

  • Elton John & Leon Russell to Release Collaborative New CD, The Union
    08/23/2010 - 13:42
    Etc/GMT-7
The highly anticipated single from Elton John & Leon Russell is the first to be made available from The Union. This collaborative album with Elton John and Leon Russell will be released October 19,2010 in the U.S. on Decca (October 25, 2010 in the U.K. on Mercury Records). The album marks the first time these iconic artists have worked together since 1970.

The single CD release of "If It Wasn't For Bad," is released on August 24, 2010 on iTunes and all digital retailers.

"If It Wasn't For Bad," written by Leon Russell, features vocals by Elton John and piano and vocals by Russell along with an extraordinary band bringing a bold rock/country sound organically crafted by these true musical legends.

Produced by Oscar and multiple-Grammy winning producer T Bone Burnett, The Union was recorded live in the studio with Elton and Leon on dueling pianos. The album features a variety of musical genres from R&B, soul, gospel, country, pop and rock. The 14-track disc includes selections written by Elton and his lifelong lyricist Bernie Taupin, as well as the combined incomparable songwriting team encompassing Leon, Elton, Bernie and T Bone.

Leon first met Elton in 1970 when he attended Elton's first ever U.S. show at the famous Troubadour in Los Angeles. The meeting heralded the beginning of a long friendship and a mutual appreciation between the two artists. "In the late '60s and early '70s, the one piano player and vocalist who influenced me more than anybody else was Leon Russell," Elton said. "He was my idol." The pair went on to tour together shortly thereafter at New York's Fillmore East and to this day have held such high admiration for each other's work.

After years of being out of touch, Elton listened to Leon's music while on safari in Africa last summer and was inspired to reconnect with his idol. "Elton called to ask if I would do a duet album with him," Russell said. "I'm very happy that he chose me to do this."

2010 Summer Hotels Continue Rates Well Below 2009; Airfare rebounds

Summer travel deals for 2010 are still available. While airfare for summer has risen slightly, hotel rates have decreased.

At the beginning of summer, the average domestic hotel rate was $140 and the international hotel rate was $201. As of mid-July, average domestic hotel rates dropped to $131 and average international rates to $182. Conversely, domestic average airfare rose to $364 from $357, and international average airfare rose to $834 from $819, according to Travelocity.com.

Travelocity’s Summer Data Report for summer 2010 reveals domestic airfare has returned to 2008 prices, with overall airfare averaging $360 round-trip. This is an increase of nine percent from when compared to last summer. International airfare is 10 percent higher than summer 2009 and two percent higher than 2008.

Despite increases in airfare, however, there are several top summer destinations where cheap flights are still the norm. Year-over-year airfare is down to Eastern Europe (-5%). Maui (-5%), the Dominican Republic (-4%), and the U.S. Virgin Islands (-2%).

But, hotel prices are still a bargain for summer 2010 travel. Agressive hotel deals and rock-bottom prices last summer can still be found, with Average Daily Rates (ADR) at domestic hotels slightly lower than summer 2009 and 14 percent lower than prices paid in 2008, according to Travelocity.

“Despite higher airfare, travelers will still enjoy great deals on their summer travel,” said Genevieve Shaw Brown, senior editor at Travelocity. “Beyond the great summer hotel deals available, travelers can save up to $525 just by booking their flight and hotel together in a vacation package.”

The most popular summer vacation hotspots will fill up faster and earlier. Some travel agencies, airlines and hotels will reimburse the difference if your reservation price drops lower than your purchase price.

Since the travel industry depends of filling rooms, airline seats and hotel rooms have to be filled, otherwise they are worthless to the companies after the date has passed. The closer the date gets, though, there is the possibility that the best seats or rooms won't be available. You may have to compromise your plans to get the best holiday discount.

Cruise discounts better at the last minute

Last minute cruise deals often have the steepest discounts as the cruise lines want to fill every ship. Cruise deals are best within 60 days of departure. Of course, the earlier a cruise is booked means your choice of the best locations are available- at a premimum price. But, for a cheap cruise, the last minute special satisfies most travelers.

The 60 day period is also often the closing date to cancel a cruise reservation. Cruise lines don't like to see empty rooms. So, last minute tickets for cruises should be easy to find.

If you book a last minute cruise, remember to confirm your airline flight (without booking a last minute flight deal). If you miss your plane, you also miss your cruise. They won't let you get on the next ship.

The event was open to team members working in the home office and several key family members of the family owned and operated company were on hand to receive the proclamation and make statements.

"It is an honor to present White Castle with such an award for the invaluable impact the company has made on Ohio's economy and our communities," Rep. Flowers said. "Our state is a better place because of companies like White Castle."

"We're honored by this award and happy to call Ohio home," commented White Castle CEO and President Bill Ingram. "We're pleased to celebrate our service to craving customers everywhere, but especially here in central Ohio," Ingram added.

Flowers is Majority Floor Leader in his 3rd term in office. A resident of Canal Winchester, Ohio, he serves on Standing Committees including the Finance and Appropriations Transportation and Justice Subcommittee, Health, Rules and Reference, and State Government.

In Arizona the average total closing fees for the buyer are at $3,950, including a $1,400 loan origination fee and $2,550 in title and other closing costs. On the sellers side the biggest cost is usually the real estate commission. Don't Forget in Arizona the closing date is the day all the paper work is recorded. These means all parties sign days before the closing date.

In the most recent Commerce Department report released, personal spending and personal incomes were unimproved from the previous month, and the savings rate increased as consumers cut back on purchases. This data sheds light on the slow economic recovery, also it has impacts on home loan rates.

Here's why. It has to do with something called the velocity of money. Even though the government keeps pumping money into the system, nothing happens until that money is spent or lent, and passes from one hand to another or one business to another. The speed at which this money passes between parties is called the velocity of money.

Cameron Diaz has replaced Jessica Biel as the most dangerous celebrity to search for on the Web, according to security company McAfee, Inc.

For the fourth year in a row, McAfee researched popular culture?s most famous people to reveal the riskiest celebrity athletes, musicians, politicians, comedians and Hollywood stars on the Web.

The McAfee Most Dangerous Celebrities study found movie stars and models top the ?most dangerous? list this year while politicians like Barack Obama and Sarah Palin are among the safest. Cybercriminals often use the names of popular celebrities to lure people to sites that are actually laden with malicious software. Anyone looking for the latest videos or pictures could end up with a malware-ridden computer instead of just trendy content.

Last gasp 2010 summer vacation packages at great deals

The Labor Day Weekend is one of the busiest vacation holidays of the year. This year, the slowdown in tourism has prompted hotels to drop their rates below average summer prices. Labor Day Travel deals for 2010 will be plentiful.

Drop in tourism means more price incentives

This year, bargain hunters can find some great, one-time, deals online. Because of the economy, new unadvertised deals pop up all of the time.

Only 42% of Americans plan to take a vacation trip this summer, according to a recent survey by a AP-Gfk Poll. Tourism could shrink even more if the recession continues through the winter holidays or into 2010.

The Poll, conducted by GfK Roper Public Affairs & Media during April 16-20, 2009, asked 1,000 random adults their summer travel plans. The survey also found that 7% of Americans surveyed plan a more elaborate trip to take advantage of lower prices. Find our summer travel deals from major travel online services.
